GR20 650b tyre options.

We currently have 5 650b tyre options for the GR20 Gravel Bike. All of these are an included cost in the GR20 specification. We’ve tested the tyres we use and can offer guidance as to what best suits your requirements. We have summarised below the differences between each tyre to help. The tyres are listed from left to right.

Hutchinson 650b Gravel Tyres

Overide 650 x 47 Gravel Tyre - Tan Wall Only

The Overide tyre is suited to both occasional or intensive gravel riding. From smooth roads, degraded roads, paths and tracks, the it is ideal for these varied conditions. It is a super fast gravel tyre for dry conditions but limited when it gets wet and muddy off-road.

Toureg 650 x 47 Gravel Tyre - Tan or Black Wall

The Toureg offers a tread pattern that is more suited to a greater duration of gravel riding vs the road and for wet conditions. Road performance is still excellent but the greater grip off road due to the tread pattern will produce more drag on road for the transitions between sections of off road. In practice, this isn’t an issue at all for us. We were also staggered by the amount of grip available off road in wet slippery and muddy conditions due to the rubber compound. This is a very impressive tyre.

Black Mamba CX 650 x 50 Gravel Tyre - Black Wall Only

As you can tell from the name the Black Mamba has migrated over to the gravel world. What Hutchinson say, “The Black Mamba CX was originally inspired by the mountain bike version to produce a fast, soft and flexible tyre. Skilful in technical areas, reactive in challenges, its design has been nurtured to guarantee a maximum efficiency on rolling and dry terrain. At ease both on tough roads and tracks”.

Maxxis 650b Gravel Tyres

Rambler 650 x 47 Gravel Tyre - Black Wall Only

The Rambler is a gravel and dirt road racing tyre. It’s our first love when it comes to gravel tyres as it was the one featured on our prototype gravel bikes. It is a super flexible gravel tyre that is as happy on the road during transitions as it is off road on a variety of terrains. We’ve ridden a 140 mile gravel adventure across mixed terrain and were never left wanting. It’s a real shame Maxxis don’t make the 650b in a tan wall.

Tubeless

We build all our GR20s with a tubeless setup and use Orange Endurance Seal which we have had a great deal of success with. We use 120ml per tyre as this the maximum level recommended by Orange Seal and want to offer our customers with the best chance of sealing that we can.
